Transferring horse ownership is an important process that ensures proper documentation and legal recognition of the change in ownership. ACE Group Inc facilitates this process to make it as smooth as possible for both buyers and sellers. Here’s what you need to know:

Download these instructions in Pdf: Downloadable instructions.

Step 1: Membership
Become a member of ACE Group Inc. This is required for both registration and transfer services.

Step 2: Initiate Transfer
The current owner (seller) must initiate the transfer process by filling out the original ACE Group Inc Certificate of Ownership. This Certificate should be kept in a plastic sleeve in the back of the booklet (Horse Passport).

Step 3: Documentation
Complete the Ownership Certificate with details of both the previous owner and the purchaser. Include any missing information such as microchip number or height.

Step 4: Submission
Send the completed document to ACE Group Inc for processing. This can be done by mail or email if it’s a good quality copy.

Step 5: Processing and Confirmation
Once processed, ACE Group Inc will send confirmation of the transfer to the buyer. An invoice for the transfer fee will be issued.

Step 6: New Ownership Papers
New ownership papers will be issued to the new owner after payment of the invoice.

Missing Certificate of Ownership?
If the original Certificate of Ownership has gone missing and cannot be found, you can download a Transfer of Ownership form from the ACE Group Inc. website. Please note:

  • All sections of the form must be completed.
  • The seller’s name must correspond with the current owner in the ACE Database.
  • If the names do not match, other options such as a Statutory Declaration and proof of purchase will be required.
  • A photograph of the horse in question must match ACE Database records.

Note: It’s crucial to complete the ownership transfer as soon as possible after the sale to ensure all records are up to date and to avoid any potential legal issues.

Important Notes:

  • The transfer fee is $35.
  • If the transfer of ownership has not been completed, please submit a copy of your Contract of Sale (signed by both the Seller and Purchaser).
  • While the current owner initiates the transfer, the responsibility for completing the transfer typically lies with the buyer of the horse, unless prior arrangements have been made.
