Passport Guide
Eligibility for Export Passport
The following horses are eligible for an export passport:
- Horses that are not registered with any society
- Registered horses with Societies that don’t issue passports.
- Pet horses and ponies
- Polo Ponies
- Endurance Horses (Some Registered Arabian horses may have a passport)
- Off the track Thoroughbreds that will not race again
Important Notice: Only one passport per horse is allowed.
If your horse already has a passport with another Society, you cannot obtain an additional passport from ACE Group.
Already Registered Horses
If your horse is already registered and has a passport with another Society:
- You cannot obtain a new passport from ACE Group
- For lost passports, contact the original issuing Society for a duplicate
- Alternatively, you can apply to Equestrian Australia for an FEI pass for your horse to travel overseas.
What is Required When Applying for a Passport?
- (If Registered) Name
- Sex
- Colour
- Height if not a foal
- Date of Birth
- Microchip
- Sire (If known)
- Dam (If known)
- Registration Number if registered
- Society registered with if applicable.

Full face, straight on
Rear showing back of 4 legs (without the tail in the way)
Additionally required:
Markings diagram (called ‘Horse ID Form’) of white markings and whorls (downloadable from website).
Overseas Registration
If you plan to register your horse with an overseas Society once the horse is landed in its new country:
- Consider applying for an interim passport with Equestrian Australia (EA) which will issue an FEI pass and therefore you will be free to apply for a passport once overseas with the Society of your choice.

- Use the “Registration Online” menu on our website
- DNA and Service Certificates are not required if no pedigree is necessary
